How To Open Your Above Ground Pool

!±8± How To Open Your Above Ground Pool

Each spring brings that time: time to open your above ground pool for the swimming season of summer. It has been a hard, cold winter, and it seems so long ago that your pool was open and the water was gleaming. This step-by-step guide will get your above ground pool open and operating in practically no time.

1. Start by siphoning off all water that might be collected atop your pool's cover. if you are going to use an electric suck pump, it is a good idea to place a plastic frisbee or similar object between the cover and the pump.

2. Carefully remove any leaves and other debris from the top of the cover.

3. Disconnect and take off the cover cable from the ratchet.

4. Take off any cover clips and water tubes.

5. Take Off the cover slowly. Be careful not to let any debris that is atop the cover fall into the pool when you slip off the cover.

6. Remove the pillow by untying its string. Deflate the pillow.

7. Remove any sticks and leaves or other items from the pool with a leaf net or a skimmer.

8. Expect the water level to be low. This occurs due to ice, evaporation, and water displacement.

9. The water level will probably be low. Add more. It is important that the level of the water be halfway up the skimmer. You should maintain this water level throughout the pool season.

10. Check your skimmer, pump, and filter to be sure that they are in proper working order.

11. Install the pump onto its base. Fasten it with two pump mounting screws.

12. Connect the ground wire to the pump.

13. Put the filter onto the base.

14. Check to be sure that all rubber o-rings are lubricated and in good condition.

15. Securely connect the union between the pump and the filter.

16. Securely connect the filter hose from the pump to the skimmer.

17. If you will be using a chlorinator, attach the return hose from the chlorinator to the filter. Then attach the return hose to the outlet.

18. Be certain that all hose clamps are secure.

19. Be certain that the lid cover on the pump is secured tightly.

20. Use the removal tool to remove the winter plug from the return fitting. Then take off the aquadoor, or ice-plate, from the skimmer.

21. Make sure that all the screws on the skimmer are secure.

22. Attach the eyeball return piece. Be certain that the fitting parts are all assembled before installing. Once installed, make sure to point the fitting at a downward angle.

23. Install the skimmer weir and skimmer basket.

24. If you have a deck, install the ladder into the flanges on the deck's surface. If you do not have a deck against or around your pool, install the A-frame ladder. If you intend to use drop-in stairs, first place sandbags into the stair unit, then submerge the stairs in the water. Insert the handrail into the flange of the deck or stairs.

25. Be sure that every electrical connection is grounded.

26. Turn on your filter system.

27. If you have a DE filter, insert the necessary amount of DE. Expect to 'bump' your filter several times during the first 24 hours of usage.

28. If you use a cartridge filter, be sure to install the filter cartridge.

29. If you have a sand filter, make sure to insert the drain plug into the tank. Be certain to properly fill your filter with filter sand. You should replace the filter sand at least every two years.

30. Backwash the filter.

31. Shut the pump off.

32. Turn the the handle of the valve to the position marked 'filter' and turn the pump on.

33. Don't vacuum your pool for at least 24 hours.

That's all. You may now swim in your pool. Have fun and enjoy the water.

Pool Filters - Keep Your Swimming Pool Clean and Safe

!±8± Pool Filters - Keep Your Swimming Pool Clean and Safe

There are various parts that have to be put together before you can have a good pool system. Pool filters are among the many pieces of pool equipment that have to be set up properly. These keep the water crystal clear and prevent the spread of skin diseases and allergies.

As time passes, sand, dirt, leaves and other debris fall into the pool. If you don't have pool filters, then your pool will be dirt black in no time. There are three kinds of filters available in the market. Cartridge filters, sand filters and earth filters.

• Cartridge filters - This is like your typical water filter in the kitchen. The water comes in, the dirt is left inside and the clean water comes out. Among the other filters, this is the most common. Ideally, this should be replaced every six months or as needed. Some filters due to the amount of dirt in the water tend to become dirtier faster.

• Sand filters - Like a cartridge filter, the water comes in, and the sand naturally filters the water. As the water comes in, all the impurities are left behind. This process maintains the cleanliness of the water. However, the sand needs backwashing every few weeks to ensure that the dirt will be washed away.

• Earth filters - According to most people, this is far the best filter. This type of filter can strain out dirt as little as five microns. But, like the sand filter this needs to be backwashed regularly to keep it clean and prolong its usage.

Most people think that you can just use a net to maintain the cleanliness of the swimming pool. But, this won't be very effective since most dirt and debris is pretty much invisible to the naked eye. If you want crystal clear water in your pool then it is best that you install a filter. This will make you feel more comfortable about the water that you swim in.

Having pool filters assure that the water in your swimming pool is safe and clean. Installing filters prevent you and your family from getting infected of skin allergies or diseases caused by bacteria and microorganisms.
